At Gonzalez Painters & Contractors, our mission goes beyond providing high-quality painting and contracting services; it’s about giving back to the community that has supported us throughout the years. Founded by Florencio Gonzalez in 2002, the company started with a small crew of three, all of whom are still with us today. Over the past two decades, we’ve grown into a team of 85, offering a range of services such as residential and commercial painting, roofing, gutter installations, cabinet painting, and more. But perhaps one of the most rewarding aspects of our growth has been our ability to invest in the well-being of our community.

Our team is proud to support local causes, including Hope Renovations, Habitat for Humanity of Orange County, and PORCH Chapel Hill-Carrboro. One of our most impactful contributions is our sponsorship of the Food for Schools (FFS) program, which provides supplemental food to students in Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools who are struggling with hunger and need help concentrating in class.

Supporting Students with FFS

Through the Food for Schools program, PORCH Chapel Hill-Carrboro supplies $1,100 worth of healthy snacks to each school in the district over the course of the academic year. These snacks – such as granola bars, applesauce, cheese crackers, and protein bars – are distributed by school social workers, ensuring that students who are hungry during the school day have access to nourishing food. Even school nurses receive a stockpile of these snacks, which come in handy when students are feeling unwell and need something to eat.

The impact of the Food for Schools program is both simple and profound. By providing these snacks, we help students focus on their education, ensuring that hunger does not stand in the way of their learning and growth. Why We Give Back

“We get so much from the community, and it’s important to give back,” says Jesus Avendano, our sales and marketing manager. “People often hire us because they know the work we do with PORCH or because their kids go to a school we’ve supported. It shows them that we care about where we live and work.”

Our commitment to community service extends far beyond Food for Schools. We’ve partnered with PORCH on food drives, helped paint their new community hub, and sponsored a mural project at Carrboro High School. These efforts not only strengthen our ties with the community but also demonstrate that we’re more than just a business. We believe in creating meaningful connections with the people we serve.
